Chartogne-Taillet NV Champagne Brut Le Rosé

Despite being a blend of several different parcels, a substantial portion of the grapes for this 60% Chardonnay- 40% Pinot Noir blend come from the 1.3 acre vineyard of Les Orizeaux in Merfy. Detailed soil analyses of this parcel and of all of Alexandre’s vineyards are beautifully rendered on his website, an informative rarity within Champagne. Golden peach hues brighten to coppery edged flames for this noticeably dry and structured rosé. The nose hints at tamarillo, red currants, cinnamon sticks, pumpkin spice, and hickory powder. A broad and powerful palate offers yellow plum, rhubarb with a sour cherry finish. This will liven up an array of fatty dishes, but will pair perfectly with a chicken liver pâté. David Salinas
