This is not your Daddy's Old Vine Zinfandel, but your Grandfather may remember back to when California's red wines were uniformly lower in alcohol, easy to drink, and paired well with foods. Sweet tart strawberry and cherry, light herb, and a tickle of black pepper spice, all in a 13.5% alc wine, make an almost Beaujolais-esque lighter styled red wine. A pleasure to drink, it dances with foods instead of overpowering them. This is a lovely Zin that more than one of our customers thought was a Pinot Noir for its lightness. Call it Zin Noir if you like, just don't call it late to dinner. Zinfandel goes well with "typical American" food such as pizza and burgers, but also hearty enough to pair with red sauces, gamey meats, spicy dishes and asian cuisine.
