Cinsaut is not well known in the category of still red wines as its high yields, low tannins, thin skin, and large berries are too easily turned into large quantities of slightly fruity, pale, rosé. Otherwise, it's camouflaged by the other, more powerful southern French varieties where its qualities rarely shine. But it's Cinsaut I love in single varietal so much more than G/S/M and Carignan. It has a wonderful fruitiness that, in Cousin Oscar, leans toward purplish, bluish fruit and occasionally raspberries. The fruit is ripe but not too ripe, and the body is totally plush and juicy. New World Pinot Noir-drinkers need to know about this. Casual wine drinkers should already have one in their basket. Cousin Oscar is a fun, summer, thirst-quenching red Jean-Marie made for fun. It’s label is a combination of designs Jean-Marie put together from 50′s magazines. He named the wine after his girlfriend’s cousin (Oscar) who is apparently irresistable to the ladies.
A good fight over a great wine has been witnessed by many wine drinkers. "On se l'arrache" essentially translates that you'll be fighting over this wine with whomever is present. Light in alcohol, this wine has easy, fresh fruit, is unoaked and quaffable. Drink lightly chilled. Is there any food this wouldn't work well with?
FoodPairingCinsault as a wine and food pairing is often used with sea snails in garlic, better known as Escargot. It's also works quite well in pairings with stews, braised and roasted meat dishes like beef, lamb, goat, beef, duck, chicken and pork.
