Production Method: The Lost Explorer Mezcal Handcrafted by renowned Maestro Mezcalero Don Fortino Ramos in Valles Centrales, Oaxaca, The Lost Explorer Mezcal honors time, tradition, and the sacred lifecycle of agave. Each varietal—Espadín, Tobalá, and Salmiana—is grown for 8–12 years on ancestral Miztec land, hand-harvested only at peak maturity, and cooked using both earthen pit ovens and brick ovens to reduce environmental impact and enhance flavor. Roasted piñas are milled, naturally fermented in open-top oak barrels with spring water and wild yeasts, then double-distilled in small copper stills to produce a smooth, well-balanced spirit. Bottled at 42% ABV in glass made from recycled crystal scraps, each bottle is hand-labeled and sealed with biodegradable beeswax and cork. Committed to sustainability, The Lost Explorer replants 3 agaves for every 1 harvested and upcycles agave waste into adobe bricks, compost, and copitas.
Madre Cuishe is a wild-harvested agave, carefully selected for our exclusive small-batch limited edition release of Reserva del Maestro. Adapting to the arid and rocky soils of Oaxaca, Madre Cuishe thrives in these harsh conditions that shape its distinct and complex character. Its name, “Madre Cuishe,” reflects its role as a key pollinator for other cuishe agaves, like Bicuishe and Cuishe, contributing to the genetic diversity and propagation of these varieties. Its fibrous, elongated structure presents additional challenges during production and requires great skill from our maestro mezcalero, Fortino Ramos.
