Production of the elixir Vegetal takes several weeks and includes three stages: distillation to obtain the aroma, maceration, which gives the natural color, and extraction to recover the beneficial properties from the 130 plants, flowers, bark, roots, and spices. Its properties lie primarily in the use of the plants in their natural state.
Made by the Chartreuse Monks since 1737 according to the instructions set out in the secret manuscript given to them by François-Annibal d'Estrées in 1605. The Herbal Elixir gets its unique flavour from 130 medicinal and aromatic plants and flowers.
