Characteristics: Brilliant red color, clear and bright. It may be the power of suggestion but to me Chianti Rufina is so special in the bouquet among the Chianti regions; the most structured and stony that comes across high-toned calling one back for yet another sniff.
Vinous Review: 90 points
Good deep red. Pungent flinty minerality lifts the aromas of red berries, quinine and aromatic herbs. Round and sweet in the mouth but given shape by strong, well-integrated acidity and Frascole's usual flintiness. This lush, densely packed Chianti Rufina finishes ripe, sappy and very long. This strikes me as a distinctly riper-style, warmer Chianti Rufina from Frascole, the wines of which are typically paragons of cool minerality and minty refinement. Another excellent value.

The 2011 Chianti Rufina is packed tight with pretty nuances of exotic spice, cardamom, clove and nutmeg. Luckily the spice does not overpower the sweet cherry fruit and blue-flower aromas that give the wine extra intensity. Dusty mineral tones make for elegant aromatic contours. This Chianti Rufina also delivers a great sense of weightlessness and energy on the finish.
