With its intense bright nose, the 2012 Novelty Hill Syrah offers a rich, round mouth-feel pleasantly offset by balanced acidity, dark plum and exotic spice before giving way to a densely layered, silky finish.

The variety is unmistakable, with aromas of coffee, earth and plummy fruit. Rich flavors display a mix of fruit and barrel (45% new French and American), making it a delicious find at this price.

Wine Spectator: 90 points 
Polished and spicy, with a mineral edge to the allspice-accented ripe blackberry flavors, finishing with a floral hint. Drink now through 2017. 1,222 cases made.

Vinous Review: 88 points 
Bright, medium red-ruby. Musky black raspberry and smoky oak on the nose, plus a hint of dark chocolate. Suave and fine-grained on the palate, conveying a restrained sweetness to the black cherry, dark raspberry, chocolate and spice flavors. Understated Syrah but with no lack of texture. Finishes with ripe, smooth tannins and good length. No easy sweetness here.

Syrah pairs nicely with barbecued foods, grilled foods, dark meats, strong game, hearty ripe cheeses and lamb - hearty foods. It also goes well with Indian, Mexican, and other spicy foods.
