Madame Bollinger's idea is radical, creative, and audacious: offered for tasting immediately after disgorgement, the wine bursts with freshness and delivers powerful aromas, the result of extended vinification in oak barrels. A unique taste, undeniable prestige: Bollinger RD is unparalleled. In 1967, after some hesitation regarding the final name for the cuvée, Bollinger RD (Recently Disgorged) was finally chosen. Three vintages were released simultaneously: the 1952 in the UK market, the 1953 in Switzerland and France, and the 1955 in the United States and Italy. It was this last vintage, followed by the 1959, that definitively established the cuvée's international reputation.
