Taconic Distillery

We do add a touch of our artisanal water to give this bourbon
healthy dose of butteriness. At 57.5% abv, it still has a rather
sweet nose, with corn and cereal grain, as well as vanilla.
The higher proof also provides a heightened dose of caramel
and butterscotch on the palate. The finish is long, bold and
warm with lingering notes of spice and candied fruit.

Taconic Distillery Barrel Strength Bourbon

TACONIC DISTILLERY BOURBON CREAM

Our limited edition bourbon comes from teaming up with
Catskill Mountain Sugarhouse. We send used bourbon
barrels to the sugarhouse, who fills them with grade A organic
maple syrup. After a few months aging, the contents are then
bottled as our Bourbon Barrel Maple Syrup.
Then we fill those same maple syrup-laced barrels with
bourbon. After a few months of soaking up the sweetness,
we have a batch of Double Barrel Bourbon Maple Whiskey.
The initial encounter has sweetness lingering pleasantly on
the lips with the earthiness of the barrel wood balancing
out the sweetness nicely. Because of the dominant maple,
there is not the customary bourbon essences of vanilla or
caramel. The finish is peppery with a slight afterburn at the
back of the throat that lets you know this is still 90 proof
bourbon…even if it does make you want pancakes!

Taconic Distillery Double Barrel Bourbon Whiskey with Maple Syrup

As a young rye, one might expect a particular smoothness
to this 90 proof rye. It doesn’t disappoint. An undercurrent
of woodiness and spice gets under the tongue and tends to
command the flavor, but it’s the rye’s mild sweetness, like
summer fruit just before full ripeness, that glides it along.
The finish is clean and even smoother, as mild hints of
bananas and watermelon sourballs linger into a mild,
mellow finish. This is a fine sipping rye.

Taconic Distillery Founder's Rye Whiskey

Taconic Distillery was founded in 2013 as a purveyor of craft spirits from the Hudson Valley area of New York. Their products are perfect for the avid outdoorsman, as they are all inspired by hunting and fishing, and designed to embrace a passion for the outdoors. Taconic’s Mizunara Cask Finish Bourbon was aged for an undisclosed period of time prior to being finished in Mizunara oak casks. This standard alcohol content for this whiskey is 90 proof, however, this review is based on the more limited 107 proof release.
