COS is a benchmark producer for their naturalistic approach in the vineyards and in the winery. In the 80s and 90s the trend was to maximize big color, extraction, alcohol, in addition to frequent use of chemicals in both the vineyards and in the winery. COS carved out a different path looking for more classic, traditional methods that produced wines ripe with freshness and vitality. Allowing the vines, soil, and terroir speak for themselves is again in fashion – minimal intervention.
One of the exciting developments of this movement is the use of clay pots, amphora, used for aging wine. These wines were natural before anyone was talking about a natural wine movement. COS has been producing the Cerasuolo di Vittoria for almost 40 years and the Pithos starting in 2000. Named after the Greek word for amphora. This wine expresses all the rich character of the Cerasuolo DOCG; the ancient use of amphora softens the wine and is believed to be a greater vessel to express more purely the terroir of the area.

An extremely gastronomic version of Cerasuolo which we like very much for its meaty peppery notes. An intriguing wine with an extraordinary vital energy based on wild fruits, wild strawberries, mulberry and pomegranate. In the mouth the wine reflects its olfactory impressions and thus we happily re-encounter the black pepper mixed with carob and sweet cherries. Quick on the palate with a very savoury rounded finish with hints of mulberry.
In the right season, perfect with a slice of seared tuna, with chopped mushrooms or with feathered game, its harmony with pizza is a surprise throughout the year.

Blend: 60% Nero d’Avola, 40% Frappato

Lamùri, or "love" in Sicilian dialect, is Tasca d'Almerita's most luscious, fruit-forward, and youthful Nero d'Avola. Made from 100% Nero d'Avola from 10-15 year old vines grown in sandy soils. The unique micro-climate provides Lamùri its pleasant freshness and elegance. Intense ruby-red in color, Lamùri offers lush aromas of blackberry, mulberry and cherry. On the palate, this wine is incredibly rich, with velvety tannins and a refreshing acidity. Recommended with Mediterranean fare, such as pasta, roasted lamb and barbecued kebabs or ribs. Critical Acclaim RP91 The Wine Advocate - "The 2009 Lamuri is Tasca's mid-range Nero d'Avola, although it is a wine that regularly overdelivers for its price. Sweet candied fruit, herbs and flowers meld together nicely in this polished, mid-weight red. The 2009 is a somewhat firm Lamuri that will require at least 6-12 further months in bottle. I especially like the intensity and drive of the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. "
