Product Info
The Royal Spanish Language Academy´s defines the masculine plural word Fesceninos as a satiric word invented in the city of Fescenio that can be obscene and its origins date back to ancient Roman songs during the Roman occupation of these Spanish lands in ancient times. Fescenino is just a nick name chosen for this oaked red wine from the Ribera del Duero which was crafted from Tempranillo (Tinta del País) grapes cultivated from grapevines that were between 10 and 60 years old. All of these grapevines are clones of ancient and priceless pre-phyloxera grapevines from the ancestors for the Bodegas Juan Manuel Burgos family. These vineyards are situated in the municipalities of Peñaranda de Duero and Páramo de Pesquera in natural calcareous and clay filled soils. All of the Tempranillo grapes used to craft this wine are cultivated by hand and they were transported to this winery in small 44 pound (20 Kg) boxes. The fermentation process was realized at very low temperatures in vats and these grapes were also macerated for 15 days. Fescenio from the Ribea del Duero was aged for five months in select French oak barrels. The production of this vintage was limited to 15,000 bottles.
