Hourglass Blueline Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley
USA
2011
Our Blueline Estate Vineyard, with its warm Calistoga location, deep gravel beds and well drained soils, performed exceptionally well in the cooler 2011 vintage. Thermal air flows from the canyons above the vineyard kept mid-October's Tule fog at bay, allowing the grapes to ripen completely without adverse effects such as botrytis mold that affected much of the Napa Valley.
Aromas of dried cranberries, soy, and cinnamon are juxtaposed with a heady perfume of cedar box. The wine is of a classical style, rich yet highly structured with superb layering of red and black fruits, and beautifully integrated acid and fruit. The tight center core is balanced by fleshy black fruit on the mid palate and rich, silky tannins. The telltale minerality of our Blueline Vineyard runs through the length of the wine, providing a wet slate component and energy and lift throughout. Blueline wines from cooler vintage years tend to age better due to their higher acidity and tight fruit structure. 2011 is no exception.
Wine Spectator: 91 points
An immense, richly flavored effort, with lavish oak cloaked over dense blackberry, mocha, espresso, vanilla and crushed rock notes. Ends with a pleasing push of rich, charming fruit set against a wall of tannins. Best from 2015 through 2025. 1,000 cases made.

Vinous Review: 88 points
The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Blueline is direct and focused from start to finish. Dark red and black fruit, licorice, tar and sweet spices flesh out in a wine endowed with energy and cut. This is a distinctly super-ripe style for the year.
